Club Constitution and Rules

  1. Name: Shall be The Jersey Rock Climbing Club.
  2. Objectives: To promote the sport of rock climbing and allied activities on the Island of Jersey.
  3. Officers: These shall consist of a Chairman, a Secretary, a Treasurer and a minimum of two Committee Members.All the foregoing officers shall fall vacant at each Annual General Meeting (AGM). There will be no limit on the number of times an officer may offer him or herself for election. The committee shall have the power to co-opt outside parties for committee meetings should the need arise.
  4. Annual General Meeting: Shall be held in the month of March. Members shall have at least two weeks’ notice by email and publication on the club website. A statement of accounts for the preceding year shall be presented.
  5. Extraordinary Meetings: May be called at any time by the chairman or any four members. At least two weeks’ notice shall be given by email and publication on the club website.
  6. Quorum: Shall be at least ten members for an AGM or an Extraordinary Meeting. At least four officers for a Committee Meeting.
  7. Subscription: The Subscription Fee shall be fixed at the AGM for the following year. Subscriptions are due in Dec and should be paid by the 15th December for the following year.
  8. Qualification for membership: Applicants should be at least fifteen years of age.
  9. Guests: Members of the club may invite guests to club meetings and will be responsible for the safety of their guest/s. Guests who show a continuing interest should be encouraged to join the club (Club membership may be required for guests to gain the necessary insurance required for some events such as the use of a ESC Climbing Wall).
  10. Affiliations: The club may affiliate with any other body as the membership may deem fit.
  11. Rules of the club:
    1. No pegs, bolts, or other fixed protection should be placed on natural crags. (Quarries being the only possible exception, with the required permissions obtained).
    2. Follow the country code.
    3. The club reserves the right to refuse membership.

13th February 2019 – AGM

It was proposed to remove the wording about applicants having some reasonable degree of experience, as the club had already been accepting members with little to no experience for some time. The proposition was accepted unanimously.

Old Wording

  1. Qualification for membership: Applicants should be at least fifteen years of age and have some reasonable degree of experience.

New Wording

  1. Qualification for membership: Applicants should be at least fifteen years of age.

19th March 2018 – AGM

It was proposed that as the club grows, a quorum of 25% was becoming unrealistic and should be set to a fixed number of members. The proposition was accepted unanimously and a number of 10 was agreed.

  1. Quorum: Shall be 25% of the membership for an AGM or an Extra Ordinary Meeting. At least four officers for a Committee Meeting.

New Wording

  1. Quorum: Shall be at least ten members for an AGM or an Extra Ordinary Meeting. At least four officers for a Committee Meeting.
